Avondale Writers Conference

Saturday, October 2nd, 2010

I attended my first writers conference today with some of my writer friends.  It was a little discouraging to hear just how difficult it is to get published by one of the big houses in NY. I was reminded throughout the day publishing is a business. Creating a great story is just a small part of it. This is the point where the fun of writing becomes a lot like work.  The other option is to enjoy your writing life on a small scale and maybe do a bit of self-publishing with Create Space & Amazon. Or just keep plugging away, polishing and submitting the finished pieces, working on new ones, networking, blogging and seriously considering querying an agent. I’ve heard that anyone under 50 is considered young in the fields of writing and playing the blues. And I can’t sing or play guitar so there you go.
