Road trips

I recently read a post that suggested for writers to use their summer vacation trips as inspirations for characters or stories. Cash flows being what they are, a summer trip is out. So I was thinking, why not use a trip anywhere out of town as fodder? But where to go? Being a native, I’ve been to a lot of places, at least within day trip distance. Okay, how about a quick jaunt somewhere close where I’d never been? I saw a bumper sticker that read “I heart Laveen”. I’d never been there, so I thought, why not? BFF & I headed out. We found out pretty quick that there isn’t much except farms in Laveen so the lady with the sticker must heart cotton or maybe she hearts lettuce. There’s a casino out that way too. We walked around for a bit and I’m sure there are a lot of good stories sitting and smoking away on those leather chairs but there were no decent restaurants inside the little place and we were parched and hungry. So we wound up at our favorite restaurant and then back home again. I guess – as a last resort minus the resort – I’ll have to find some stories in my neighborhood. I heart Glendale. =]
